The First Colonies

Description

The year 2189 CE saw a new generation of starships: colonial spacecraft. Travelling at 0.2c, these “Interstellar Colonial Vehicles”, or ICV for short, could transport hundreds of thousands of people to nearby star systems. Nine of these ICVs were built, each housing 10,000 to 300,000 individuals, all with the mission to colonize a planet.

Then, in the middle of the 22nd Century, as many of the ICVs hadn’t even reached their destinations yet, a new faction of humanity emerged – the Spacers: transhuman star farers that existed in ships travelling at 0.9c. They dominated interstellar trade until the Jumpgate Age, and while they had an aversion towards living on planets, the Spacers set up many far-flung outposts throughout Human Space.
